Chongqing, one of China’s “Four Great Ancient Capitals,” boasts a history spanning over 3,000 years. From its origins as a strategic military post, it has grown into a vital economic hub and a key player in China’s inland development.
Situated at the meeting point of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers, Chongqing’s history stretches back to the ancient Ba Kingdom and continued through numerous Chinese dynasties. During the Ming and Qing periods, it thrived as an important river port and regional administrative center. The city’s name, meaning “Double-Blessed,” was given in 1189 during the Southern Song Dynasty, highlighting its fortunate location.
Since becoming a direct-controlled municipality in 1997 (joining Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin), Chongqing has undergone rapid transformation into a major economic powerhouse. Despite this growth, it remains deeply connected to its cultural roots, with ancient temples, traditional stilt houses, and historic districts. We wanted a mix of adventure and relaxation on our trip to China, and Panda Tourism delivered big time. We had a great time with our guuide, Emily. She is so friendly and knowledgeable, she made navigating the city super easy, and her tips on where to go in my free time were spot on. We went to Chengdu to visit the pandas, and the cruise experience was just awesome! The Three Gorges were jaw-dropping, and the shore excursions gave me a great mix of history and culture. My favorite stop was the Shennong Stream, where we got to ride in traditional boats through the most beautiful scenery. I loved spending my evenings watching the sunset over the river. This trip was really really beautiful. I would go back and choose them again.

This was our first time in China, and my partner and I wanted to see as much as we could in two weeks, Panda Tourism put together the perfect itinerary. Beijing was such an amazing capital to start, and Shanghai, what a city! The mix of old and new is just fascinating, and we loved strolling through the French Concession and checking out all the little cafes and shops. It feels like Paris here. Also just amazed with the coffee culture. There are many incredibly good cafes with high quality beans. Going with Panda Tourism was great, they really cared about every little detail. They checked in with us every day to make sure everything was going smoothly, and Kris was always there to answer questions . Overall, China is very different than what you would expect, but in a good way. This trip was beyond expectations.

We booked the 14 days luxury trip for family vacation, and we really enjoyed this trip with Panda Tourism. Beijing and Xi'an were just amazing to see into history and ancient China's way of life. And we love the vibes of Guilin and Yangshuo, we had a wonderful time cycling and boating there. The local staff ensured that every detail was perfect. Guides were professional. The hotels were great quality. They were able to be accommodating to our food preferences for most meals. This was by far one of the most enjoyable and stress-free vacations we've had. I highly recommended.
